Member Emeritus Information

Overview

The Member emeritus status recognizes those Members who have made the decision to wind down their practice and retire, but who still want to retain their EA license for purposes of preparing “family and friends” returns or volunteering their service to low income or senior support groups.

CSEA Bylaws section 3.03 defines Member emeritus as:

A Member emeritus is an Enrolled Agent who has been a Member for the preceding five (5) years, who meets the retirement terms as defined by the Board of Directors.

At the January 6, 2024, Board of Directors meeting, the Board approved the following retirement terms:

  1. The member does not solicit new clients,
  2. The member is not listed on the CSEA "find an enrolled agent"; and
  3. The member does not prepare more than 25 tax returns for compensation annually.

The Member emeritus dues rate is $45 for the membership year ending on June 30, 2025. This category is not available for Associate members (those who are not Enrolled Agents or are out of state EAs).
