Renew Your PTIN Now for 2023

Anyone who prepares or assists in preparing federal tax returns for compensation must have a valid PTIN before preparing returns. All Enrolled Agents must also have a valid PTIN.
 
IRS is now processing PTIN applications and renewals for 2023. Preparers must renew or register for their PTIN by December 31. The fee to apply for or renew 2023 PTINs is $30.75. Just log into your existing account to renew your PTIN, or create an account in order to apply for a PTIN.
 
It only takes about 15 minutes to apply for or renew your PTIN online. If you prefer to use the paper option, Form W-12, IRS Paid Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) Application, takes 4-6 weeks to process.
